WHY GIVE?

Of the 201,600 acres that comprise the beautiful, bucolic Navarro River watershed, just over 14,000 have been protected. That is a mere 7%. With increasing pressures to develop pristine lands, it is more important than ever that acreage be preserved into perpetuity, protecting precious biodiversity and the very essence of Anderson Valley itself.

A contribution to AVLT will directly help conserve the spectacular natural resources of the watershed and the rich rural qualities that that make Anderson Valley so unique and desirable: Your contribution will help continue the delicate balance of  sustainable forest lands, organic regenerative wineries and farms, undeveloped open space and habitat for both wildlife and humans.

Create Your Legacy: Estate and Planned Giving

A gift to the Anderson Valley Land Trust in your will, trust or other estate plans will ensure the working forests and farms, open spaces, and habitats of Anderson Valley are protected today and into perpetuity. Such a gift automatically enrolls you in the Anderson Valley Land Trust Legacy Society.

The Legacy  Society is our way of recognizing special individuals like you who make an estate gift to the Anderson Valley Land Trust.  Being a member of the Society allows us to recognize your generosity and commitment to the future of Anderson Valley and the Navarro River watershed. Legacy Society members are invited to special events and behind-the-scenes tours of various parts of the watershed.

Download this donation form and join the Anderson Valley Land Trust Legacy Society today! Please let us know (avlt@mcn.org) if you have already named the Anderson Valley Land Trust as a beneficiary of your estate. Informing us helps with our planning and gives us the opportunity to acknowledge you as a member of the Legacy Society.

There are many different ways you can arrange a meaningful personal commitment to the AVLT. The most common types of planned gifts are:

·       A bequest in your will or revocable trust.  Over 80% of all legacy gifts are bequests. You can arrange to leave AVLT a specific dollar amount or asset, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after specific gifts to loved ones have been made.

·       A gift or assignment of qualified retirement plan assets, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b).

·       Designating AVLT as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy.

·       A life-income gift that names AVLT as a remainder beneficiary, such as a charitable remainder trust, or a charitable gift annuity.

If you are interested in updating your will or adding a codicil to include the Anderson Valley Land Trust as a beneficiary, please consult your attorney. The following sample paragraph may be helpful:

I bequeath __________ (dollar amount or % of estate) to the Anderson Valley Land Trust Legacy, a not-for-profit organization, with address P.O. Box 141, Boonville, CA 95415; Tax ID# 94-3142400.

Are You a Landowner?

Consider Donating a Conservation Easement

Traditionally, the Anderson Valley Land Trust has a long record of accepting donations of conservation easements—gifts designed to protect the Navarro River and its tributaries, upland and riverine habitats, and Anderson Valley’s forests, working farms and open spaces. Depending upon a particular landowner’s financial situation, donating a conservation easement may entitle the landowner to various federal income and estate tax benefits. For more information about donating a conservation easement and the federal tax incentives click here.

Donate Your Land

When you give land to the Anderson Valley Land Trust, you are creating a permanent legacy, helping to ensure that the Anderson Valley remains a uniquely picturesque and beautiful, rural environment.  The Anderson Valley Land Trust could also accept gifts of other rural real estate, and would do so with the intent of placing a conservation easement on that property and selling it on the open market to support our land conservation mission. With the donor’s permission to sell the property, AVLT can convert the value of real estate into strategic purchases of more conservation land in the Navarro River Watershed and Anderson Valley.
